RTA Encourages Essential Travel Only

  • March 15th, 2020

NEW ORLEANS - The Regional Transit Authority will begin implementing service reductions, beginning Tuesday, March 17th to all bus, streetcar, ferry, and paratransit services to assist in the mitigation of community spread of COVID-19. These changes are being made in the interest of public health and safety to limit the use of public transit for essential travel only (work, health care, nutrition).

All busses and streetcars will operate on a reduced Saturday schedule from Monday through Friday beginning March 17th . The weekend schedule will remain as normal. All route schedules can be found at www.RTAforward.org.

Paratransit services will continue to operate in order to meet the needs of the community. The agency asks Paratransit riders to assist in helping to keep the community safe by prioritizing reservations. Life sustaining reservations will take priority at this time, followed by nutrition. We ask riders to limit the number of recreation based trips for their safety and the safety of our operators. Paratransit riders can call the Paratransit reservation line at 504.827.7433 to speak with a customer service representative.

The Algiers Point – Canal St. Ferry will operate Sunday through Saturday from 6:00 am to 9:30 pm. The Chalmette ferry schedule will remain the same. The agency is also restricting public access to all RTA facilities, including its headquarters, located at 2817 Canal St.
