Today, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) hosted a virtual ADA Hurricane Preparedness Meeting. The meeting featured special guest, Damon Singleton, WDSU Meteorologist, as well as speakers from the RTA Board of Commissioners, New Orleans Health Department, New Orleans Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, and the New Orleans Police Department. Each participant discussed the importance of hurricane preparedness and ways to get ready for the season.  
 
“The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority plays a pivotal role in providing transportation for our riders throughout the parish,” said Mark Raymond, Jr., RTA Vice Chair. “In the event of a hurricane impacting our city and region, the agency shifts gears in working to move residents to safety. Each year the RTA Board of Commissioners works diligently with our partners and the agency’s leadership to ensure that mobility is not an obstacle during an emergency.” 
 
June 1 is the beginning of the mid-Atlantic hurricane season which last until November 30. In preparation, each year RTA hosts a meeting geared toward hurricane preparedness for members of the ADA community. The meeting focuses on the importance of getting prepared in advance of a major hurricane impacting the city and region.  
 
“Now is the time to prepare and make plans for an active hurricane season,” said Damon Singleton, Meteorologist, WDSU. “The average number of expected storms have increased yearly. This means the likelihood of Southeast Louisiana, especially New Orleans, being impacted is more probable and we need to ensure that all residents take every storm seriously.”
