RTA Provides Update on Streetcar Improvements, Service Disruptions

  • December 16th, 2024

We will continue to update the public on repair progress

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is addressing temporary service adjustments on its streetcar lines due to ongoing projects and repairs.

Service on the 46-Rampart-Loyola Streetcar Line remains suspended as the City continues work at the Hotel Collapse Site Rehabilitation Project. The project, which began in late October, caused damage to the streetcar signalization at the intersection of Canal and Rampart streets, further delaying operations. RTA has suspended service on this line until traffic control can be safely restored. RTA is awaiting word from the City on a timeline for completion of these repairs.

Downtown service on the 12-St. Charles Streetcar Line has experienced brief overnight disruptions during several periods, including Dec. 15-16 and Dec. 22-23. Future service disruptions are expected on this line, and we will continue to inform the public.

Additionally, the 49-UPT-Riverfront Streetcar Line will be out of service for approximately 15 days starting Dec. 16. This is to allow critical repairs to a substation impacted by vandalism and theft.

Bus service has been implemented to support all affected lines. RTA appreciates the patience and understanding of its riders as these essential repairs and improvements are completed.
